When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?

RobinW When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?
First of all, I just want to thank everyone for all the advice you gave before. I can't sit here a lot because I don't want to "push her buttons". what is with the CRANKY as HELL thing. Is she coming down like she said or is she on it? her bedroom door is locked and I don't even know if she is here or not. she kept trying to leave again last night and finally at midnight I woke up again and she was out here saying she was staying home. I know she wants to get off of it but she told a friend she doesn't know how. she doesn't like talking about rehab. Which i think is a bad beginning. she needs help but wont get it. like you say, history will repeat it's self with out the help. I'm scared.
so when people are coming down are you mean as hell or what?

No, I don't think it last forever. I've seen to many success stories here.
Actually, I think my son is not using now.

I'm so happy to hear that sierra...
and happy to hear it won't last too long either.
Loraura Re: When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?
Yes, Mean as hell. Tired as hell. Then comes the hungry as hell.
After 3-5 days of mostly sleeping and eating, it's my opinion that then is prime time to get to SOME kind of recovery help.
Yes, they will still be extremely uncomfortable, grouchy, tired... but, they can possibly function long enough to get in the car and go somewhere.

If rehab isn't an option, then Narcotics Anonymous might be.
They will understand how the addict is feeling at that point in their sobriety. LIKE CRAP!
RobinW Re: When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?
Hi Loraura, I don't see her tired. she fell a sleep in the chair for 5 min. woke up and stayed up. i don't know what time she went to bed, or if someone brought her something or even if she is in her room. :(

Hey Robin....she'll crash promise. Take advantage of that. My mom sat and just watched me for hours when I fell asleep. But trust me I was mean. She may not sleep well for a while. Yes she will be mean as hell. If mean is even the right word. I was a super WITCH with a B for a good week and then on occasion while feigning from there. But it will get better. Good Luck! I hope everything works out for you!
RobinW Re: When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?
OK, thank you... well, she is in her room. so she did sleep. i had to wake her up to let her dog out. you know how much i hated doing that right????? but at least I know she was in there. It is so very hard watching her go through this but i can take it. i just want her better. i want you all better. my neighbor is a meth addict for 8 years. she is so/was so pretty. she went to rehab and now is back. I'm told she looks GREAT and is happy and wants to help others. I think the best advice is from former users. Thank you all and god bless you.

remember you are all worth it.
we are all worth it.

Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.
That doesn’t seem too encouraging does it?
But take heart, the good times will return – eventually.

Family members who think that as soon as an addict quits using must realize this. It will get worse, not better, for quite awhile. The only thing that will get better right away is the consistency of the problems. The problems will be there all day everyday and they will be severe, all day every day. When your addict was using, there were alternating periods of good and bad, up and down, energy and lethargy. But in recovery you won’t have to deal with the inconsistencies – it will be bad all the time. Constant chronic use of methamphetamine causes a biological change, a basic molecular change in the addict’s central nervous system and brain such that it requires meth to be anywhere normal. The brain becomes absolutely dependent on the stimulation that meth provides in order to function. When withdrawal occurs, serious problems are guaranteed to follow for a considerable amount of time.

Some people are concerned about things getting better instantly. In recovery, that is virtually impossible. Quitting using is barely the beginning. Just because someone quits, doesn't mean things are suddenly going to improve. Often it is just the opposite.

Excellent way of putting it, SFJ!
If things got BETTER as soon as they quit, they would have quit along time ago! It was the fact that things got worse that kept them using.

Re: When coming down from meth, are people "Mean as hell"?
My addict is going through the "mean" come down right now. After screaming at the computer for freezing on him he insisted that I make the computer do this on purpose! As usual, I left just as he was winding up for the real screaming. He appeared at my car as I pulled out of the driveway to let me know that I am a @#%$ and not invited to his birthday dinner.

I hate to admit it but sometimes I prefer him on drugs... at least then he stays out of my way and fakes happy.

I remember when I liked my other half with a quick fix..  After so many of them I wanted more though.. I finally told him that I am tired of chopped steak and will be looking for Prime Rib...  You can yell, scream, ignore, threaten all you want... I simply turn and say, Nope! I said Prime Rib... Do I stutter?

That is a very appropriate comment. It makes a great deal of sense.

When a user is on meth, he is stimulated, he feels good due to the dopamine, seratonin, norepinephrine etc. doing their thing. He feels good, therefore he is more fun to be around.

Another reason why many women are attracted to men who use meth. They are (at least initially) sexier, more confident, alert, and active. Many women find those attributes desirable.
